Foton established the joint venture of China Beijing Foton Daimler Automotive Co., Ltd. with the Daimler AG, the world’s largest commercial vehicle manufacturer. Operated by Foton’s Auman Brand, the joint venture company produces Auman medium and heavy-duty trucks ,they also produce the OM457 heavy-duty engines which emissions and power standards has been reaching Euro V and 490 HP with the approval of Daimler.
On September 8th, 2003, Foton and Daimler signed the Memorandum of Understanding for Commercial Vehicles.
On August 7th, 2008, Foton and Daimler signed a letter of cooperation intention in Beijing.
On January 29th, 2009, in Berlin, Foton reached an agreement with Germany’s Daimler AG on commercial vehicle production. Both parties agreed to establish a joint venture with a 50/50 shareholder agreement in the production of medium and heavy-duty trucks, as well as the development of associated technologies and services. The Foton-Daimler Joint Venture benefits from the sales of Foton’s AUMAN truck series worldwide.
On July 16th, 2010, Foton and Daimler jointly signed the Joint Venture Contract at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, China.
On February 18th, 2012, Beijing Foton Daimler Automotive Co., Ltd. （BFDA）was established, with a total investment of RMB9.95 billion, Foton and Daimler each holding 50% of ownership. It manufactures Foton’s AUMAN series of medium and heavy-duty trucks, and Daimler-licensed 490 HP Euro V Mercedes-Benz OM457 heavy-duty engines.
Developed by the joint venture company and equipped with the Mercedes-Benz OM457 engine,Auman Super Truck was launched at the China Beijing Auto Show.
